Projections for mystery play

As submission two evolves I believe the elements that I have adopted in the current assignment (void, negative, sliding scale etc.) will see my building become a link between other buildings. It will interact like a chain between two banks encompassing unique characteristics from each side. It will be a chameleon changing in speed and scale through my building.

A tower as a void and two worlds coming together. creating levels of continuity and change.

The two sides create a void tower which shows minimal structure but is an obvious link between the two sides.

Repetition and fragmentation of internal and external spaces

Concept delivering light to spaces by either direct or refracted means. Understanding the idea of having an open house to community with privacy for residence. Tower is a tube that envelopes the top of the sharps which reflects internally. Cuts through all spaces and links portions of hazardous event with structured journey.

A Transition.......

Tensile translucent outdoor material on circular tower creates a heavenly shadow on the earthly materials below. It is an area which is metaphorically open to community with a barbecue like kitchen. In contrast the living quarters is a very closed box structure that separates public and private life. The living and study are raised on the first floor and the simple plan bedroom with en suite is on the lower cooler zone.
The fabric outer creates a film to reduce heat on the internal sitting area of the residence. The internal space of the living/study area utilises extra storage within the current walls without need for future additions. The fenestration's mimic the cross featured on the tensile skin by allowing lines of sight to to surrounding community.

IF ONLY THERE WERE A WALL TO WRITE MY LIFE'S VERSES, THEN THE WORLD WOULD ACKNOWLEDGE MY COINCIDING EXISTENCE: robjohns, r. trying to get inside the head of the community.

I have been looking through photos I have taken to find (and crop into) elements of life that can relate to the collective confessors of my brief. I have also taken note of some things from Genesis in the bible. A few quotes i have noted in particular:

"The earth was without form and void" (genesis)

"I know your works. Behold I have set before you an open door which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name." (Revelation)

I have drawn inspiration for my character from an episode on TV, Insider on ABC. It showed the life work by one Salvation Army gentleman who was so completely unfazed, unmaterialistic and unbiased with his help for those less fortunate (as the collective confessor). This man and his wife helped cook, house and negotiate a better quality of life for these people.

I'd much rather base this horse latitude project on a character and community such as this who are needing of housing, not wanting. The following are some images I have taken in the last two months that give a hint of community, welfare and emotion in these people.

Tower of revealed secrets and the collective confessor

The collective-
The divorced- So many mistakes, so little trust.
The Optimist- My love, armour in life and courage in battle.
The addict- In an absence of conscious thought, he didn’t realise his bad judgement.
The lonely- An option, option and journey, journey to rediscover what once was and what we could be, together.
The immoral- The moment that can’t be erased, re-conjured into another so that it may be replaced with what was decent.
The mentally unique- The ‘bipolarity’ of an individual like magnetic poetry with jumbled meanings.


The Tower of revealed secrets- Collective memories, and personalities at conflict but the secrets revealed, remain the property of the tower, who is the confidant and guardian.

The Salvation
Whispers from souls, whisking, intertwining and vacuuming through a skyward fenestration. A patron saint in a robe with open hands for each lost soul and giving advice for them to move onwards. Half a century as a confidant, mentor, role model of society and mediator for the community, in need of a retirement to reflect and reward weary thoughts.

Whilst his movement is not in plain sight, it is not unnoticed. He is a teacher to others, a fighter and soldier for modern man.

Memoirs, for a gentleman of sixty who’s life has been so invasively penetrated and yet consensually open handed within the Salvation Army. He has given a lifetime in service to the salvation of others. In his very nature, to actually retire would mean his death. In life after service his continuing support and welfare to the misunderstood and misfortunate will continue. His desire to give home to his community is funded by government who recognise his continued service. In his lifetime, a wish to build a place at which no-one would be homesick.

An immaterialist, Edward seeks to fulfil the ‘what if’ of society and bring everyone into an equal ‘being’ therefore his needs are not his own. His passion is ‘people’, and giving them an opportunity by providing a corridor into a new life- the new collective and compassionate entity.

Thoughts-
tower- confessional, the partner of a priest? A barman, a call-centre help line, the what if??
A gossip, listener, mediator and advice giver
a multiple personality, or slight insanity through observation of other lives, bipolar
souls of many, humbled and whispered- like a book
St King Edward the Confessor- considered by roman catholic, and anglican religions to be the patron saint of kings, difficult marriages and separated spouses.
